They met in April 1999 in Seville and reconnected in New York, beginning a relationship that led to marriage. Their planned marriage drew public controversy in the Netherlands because of Maxima's father's role in Argentina's military government, prompting an inquiry. They married on 2 February 2002 at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam and have three daughters together. Willem-Alexander became King on 30 April 2013 and Maxima became Queen consort.
