Wendy Susan Boyle met Eric Schmidt while both were graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley in 1977. They married in June 1980 and have worked together on philanthropy, cofounding the Schmidt Family Foundation and Schmidt Ocean Institute. The couple have two children, including a daughter Sophie; another child, Alison, died in 2017. Eric is a technology executive known for serving as CEO of Google and Wendy is known for her philanthropic and investor work.
